When you first wake in the morning, folklore tells us you can wash away your luck force by flicking the water off your hands as you wash them for the first time. A lot of folk practices and taboos have this sensory element to them. When you wash your hands of something, or flick it away instinctually you know what it means to do this. In this unique workshop, we will think about how Place is the real healer in Folk Doctoring, yet doctoring travels at the same time. Just as my practices have travelled from Dorset, to Tasmania, to Salem, and back to Melbourne again. And just as crystal balls were often borrowed to bless healing waters in the past, today we practice bringing Virtue from one location in the world to another.
We will also talk about Faerie Doctoring and the old school notion that the breaking of often unknown taboos held by the Good Neighbours is often the cause of a hidden malady that clings to the fetch. This way of storying illness involves body-logic. Each person is encouraged to bring with them an old garment of theirs that is inches from needing to be thrown out, one they are happy to let go of at the end of this Work.
This workshop has recently travelled from Salem, with some new local touches!
